Got slightly amongst the fish in the Barwon estuary mouth. A nice mixed bag, fishing with the young fella. Should make for a good fry-up. The pinky snapper is about. They really come on after a northerly for some reason. The old Paternoster 2 hook rig is great there. Bit of fresh Portarlington mussel on the bottom and a chunk of blue bait on the top hook (No 6 longshanks). This means you can pick all of these up with the same rig.
These whitings are a bit smaller than the ones you get out in the bay, but they are very sweet. Lots of fun to catch. You have to fish them. Tap, tap, tap then strike. I’m a bit out of practice but got better as the day went on.
